MOUNT CARMEL – Charles Edward Wagner, 91, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2019 surrounded by his family at Holston Valley Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Charles was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and lived in Mount Carmel for the last 70 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved vacationing with his family at the beach, camping, and fishing. He retired from the Kingsport Press after 45 years of service. Ed always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Cloud and Rachel Powell Wagner; the love of his life his wife, Mary Ann Duncan Wagner; sisters, Ruby Davidson (Gilbert) and Roxie Davis Woods (Will); brothers, Virgil Wagner (Edna), Johnny Wagner (Bea), RC Wagner (Roxie), and Raymond Wagner.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Patricia Lumpkins (Eddy) of Mt. Carmel; son, David Wagner (Amy) of Big Stone Gap; 5 granddaughters, Christie Gott (Martin), Rachel Davidson (Josh), Kristen Fortin (Joe), Ashley Wagner, and Leanna Wagner; great grandchildren, Presli, Laci, Jayden, Drake, Maddox, Lizzie, and Aubrey along with several nieces, nephews, and friends at the Village.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at the Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home or anytime at Patricia’s residence. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM with Rev. Charles Kilbourne officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 28, 2019 at East Lawn Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 AM. Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers.

The family would like to say a special thank you to all the staff at the Village at Allandale for all the love and care you gave Dad!

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Church Hill or to First Presbyterian Church of Kingsport.
