CHURCH HILL – Margaret Price, 97, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at her residence.

Miss Price was born on August 15, 1921, to William Miller & Emma Gertrude Hawthorne Price and was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County. She graduated from Surgoinsville Highschool in 1940, and was a lifelong active member of First Baptist Church of Church Hill.

Margaret worked at the Kingsport Press for several years before becoming office manager at the Church Hill branch of Holston Valley Electric Company for over 40 years, having retired in her seventies. Margaret had a green thumb and was known for the violets she propagated and raised in that Church Hill office. At her passing, Miss Price had been the oldest living employee of the Holston Valley Electric Company for several years – was a fact in which she took great pride. She was a master needlework artist for crochet to cruel work to knitting. Over the years, she knitted many caps & booties for newborn babies through a ministry of her church. It must be said that Margaret dearly loved rocking on her front porch while entertaining visitors. Many have passed through that porch, engaging in the art of good conversation.

Miss Price was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Inis Price Kirkpatrick (Glen) & Lois Price Minor (L.D.); nephew, Mark Kirkpatrick; and brothers-in-law, Bert L. Frazier & H. Gene Box.

Margaret is survived by her sister, Jo Ann P. Frazier Box; niece, Margaret Ann Frazier Kennedy (Gregg); nephew, Dr. William Dana “Bill” Frazier (Lydia); great nieces, Catherine Frazier Cameron (James) & Mary Margaret Kennedy; great nephews, John Frazier Kennedy, Gregory Grant Kennedy (Kacy), & William Alexander Frazier; great-great nephew, Miles Frazier Kennedy.

A visitation will be held from 12:00 – 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Church Hill. Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM with Rev. Gary Gerhardt officiating. Music will be provided by Garry Stuart. The burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Calton, Leo Conant, Steve Frazier, Stacy Vaughan, Brandon Vaughan, & Christopher Vaughan. Honorary Pallbearers will be the church members of First Baptist Church of Church Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Church Hill in Margaret Price’s memory.

A special thank you goes to beloved sitters who provided her a wonderful quality of life-beyond measure for several years: Janice Hurd, Stella & Leo Conant, Wilma Greer, Patsy Stacy, Shannon Smith, & Geraldine Crawford.

In addition, Miss Price’s family wishes to thank the staff & members of First Baptist Church of Church Hill for being the hands & feet of Jesus. Garry Stuart, Sarah, & Carolyn visited & delighted Margaret often with gifts & songs, most recently at Christmas. Rev. Gary Gerhardt has been a kind & loving presence to Margaret, as well as to many of our family members, throughout many years.
