KINGSPORT – Milbern “Tip” Simpson, 77, passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at NHC Rehab in Kingsport, TN after a long battle with lung cancer, COPD, & emphysema.

Born on “The Mountain” in Church Hill, TN to Norman & Wanetta Quillen Simpson, he was raised in Van Hill, TN by his Aunt Lillie Tunnell, whom he called Mother, after his mom died when he was 8. He lived in & around the Van Hill & Beech Creek area most of his life until he moved to Ridgecrest Avenue in Kingsport, TN in 1976 & was living there still at the time of his death. He worked at Holliston Mills in Church Hill retiring with 30 years of service in 2004.

In addition to his parents & Aunt Lillie, Tip is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Kate McLain Simpson in October 2015; a daughter, Juanita Simpson McLain; grandson, BJ McLain; brothers, W.C. (Dub) Simpson, David (Wool) Simpson; sisters, Ann Simpson Mathews & Dorothy Penley.

Survivors are two daughters, Margaret & Lee Stallard of Kingsport; Susan & Mel Hartman of Johnson City/Sioux Falls, SD; two sons, Louis & Lisa Simpson of La Grange, Kentucky & Joe & Brenda Simpson of Kingsport; special adopted daughter, Alyce Bush of Maui, HI; grandchildren, Ashley Stallard, Nikki McLain, Amanda Simpson, Jessica Strahan, Jacqueline Montemanaro, Joshua Simpson, Rusty Frazier, & Stephen Frazier; great-grandchildren, Harley Arnold, Ozzy Arnold, Bryan “Jasper” Simpson, Alexas Bellamy, Penolopy Bellamy, Gus Hunter, Waylon Webb, Jada Kate Webb, Nia Webb, Aalyiah Strahan, Skylar Strahan, Victor Montemanaro, & Richard Montemanaro; sisters, Edna Mae Wamsley, Violet Simpson, Wanda (Ed) Brumfield, Nellie (Jimmy) Morelock, Elsie (Rex) Miller, Vickie (Larry) Manis, Jessie (Johnny) Ball; brothers, Jim (Ann) Simpson, Bob (Helen) Simpson, Marvin Simpson, & Johnny Arnold; special great-niece/ “granddaughter” Jimmie D. & family Johnny, Dakota, Haley, & Drew Salyer; special cousin, Carl Ray Simpson; many nieces & nephews & a very special buddy & beloved companion, Bulldog.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Ed McLain officiating. A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 1 at Bowser Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 AM. The grandchildren will be serving as pallbearers.

Special thanks to Jimmie D. for her care of daddy & many thanks to the nurses & staff at NHC Rehab who worked hard to make daddy’s short stay with them a pleasant one as well as to the nurses & staff at Holston Valley Medical Center & the doctors with Holston Medical Group for their care of daddy.
