Mount Carmel, TN Allen Jones, age 61, of Mount Carmel, TN , passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center following an apparent heart attack. Mr. Jones was born in Kingsport and had lived in Hawkins County for the past 34 years. He retired in July of 2012 from the First Utility District of Hawkins County as the General Manager with 36 years of service. Allen worked tirelessly to bring clean drinking water to Church Hill, Mount Carmel and the surrounding areas. He was proud to finish his career with the building of the state-of-the-art water treatment plant that other utility systems used as a benchmark. He was a member of the Nottingham United Methodist Church in Hilton's, VA, and was very proud of his faith in the Lord. His passions were his 3 granddaughters, hunting, fishing and all types of sports. He counted it a privilege to call Jesus his Lord and Savior and to serve him. He is preceded in death by his father, Rufus L. Jones, Father and mother-In-law, Dewey and Louise Bowman. Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Sharon Bowman Jones of the home, Daughter, Tomara Groot and husband, Tom of Knoxville, son, Jeremy Jones and wife Amanda of Church Hill. Grandchildren, Hannah Groot, Kira and Keatan Dishner. Mother, Ruth Winegar Jones of Kingsport, sister, Mitzi Gilliam and husband Tim of Church Hill, brother-in-laws, Paul Bowman and wife Sue of Kingsport, Larry Bowman and wife Kaureen of Sarasota, FL and sister-in-law, Kathy Transon of Salisbury, NC. Several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 PM Wednesday at the Johnson – Arrowood Funeral Home of Church Hill. Funeral services will be conducted 7 PM Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bill Porter officiating. Graveside services will be conducted 11 AM Thursday at the Church Hill Memory Gardens. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM Thursday morning to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requested memorial contributions to be made to the Nottingham United Methodist Church, 2616 Nottingham Road, Gate City, VA 24251.
