MT. CARMEL – Donald Eugene Smith, 86, passed away at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center on Wednesday, January 1, 2020.

He was born in Church Hill and attended Mt. Olive Bible Church. Donald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved playing baseball in his younger years and enjoyed watching the UT Vols and Lady Vols basketball. Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was with the Military Police in Germany from 1953 – 1955. He retired from Holston Defense after several years of employment.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Doris Lee Smith; parents, Melvin and Maude Ella Wagner Smith; sister, Mary Arnold; brothers, J.T. Smith, Ray Smith, and Roy Smith; infant sister, Betsy Irene Smith; daughter-in-law, Virginia Farra.

Donald is survived by his sons, Clifford Leon Farra (Patricia) and Jody Dean Farra; daughters, Donna Marie Baker (Ron) and Tina Faye Church (Tim); grandchildren, Tandy Farra (Sandra), Brett Baker (Anna Marie), Brittany Baker, Brad Baker, Matthew Baker, Ryan Church, and Amanda Church; great grandchildren, Madaline Church, Chloe Hobbs, and Roman Church; sisters-in-law, Ruby Griffith and Edna Cariens; brother-in-law, Teddy Prosise; several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, January 6, 2020 at the Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Ken Christian officiating. A military graveside will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 7 at McPheeters Bend Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 AM to go in procession.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Olive Bible Church.
