CHURCH HILL – Dorothy Hazel Smith, 97, entered Eternal Life on Monday, October 15, 2018 at her residence.

Mrs. Smith, a lifelong resident of Hawkins County, was born in Church Hill, TN on July 22, 1921 to the late John Barley and Lou Fleenor Hutson. She was a most precious Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend whose example of Godliness and perfect love will live within our hearts forever. In addition to her tireless devotion to her family as a Homemaker and Caregiver, Mrs. Smith worked as an Avon Sales Representative for more than 30 years. At the time of her passing, Dorothy was the oldest resident of the Christian Bend community, where she lived most of her life, and was the eldest member of Christian Bend Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in her homegoing by her husband, Carter Smith; daughter, Ada Smith McMurray; granddaughter, Robin Ward Thompson; grandson, Daniel McMurray; sisters, Eliza Marshall and Louvy Arnold; and brothers, Garland, Enoch, John, Hobert, and Ervin Hutson.

Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Wanda Gray (James), Louise Christian, and Shelia Long (Kevin) all of Church Hill, TN; sons, Ronnie Smith and Richard Smith (Margaret) both of Church Hill, TN; 21 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren; 38 great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Betty Brown; several nieces and nephews and countless friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Amedysis Home Healthcare in Rogersville, TN for the superb care they provided to Ms. Dorothy over the past several years. Please know that you are her family, too.

Calling hours will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, October 19, 2018 at the Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home. A service celebrating Mrs. Smith’s life will be at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Leland McMurray and Pastor Larry Anderson officiating. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Christian Bend Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 11:15 AM to go in procession.

Pallbearers will be Rodney McMurray, Jeff McMurray, Michael Ward, Nathan Christian, Tim Christian, Terry Christian, James Christian, and Devin Christian. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff members of Amedisys Home Healthcare in Rogersville, TN.
