KINGSPORT – Eloise Nickels Salling, 90, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born in Wood, VA on March 14, 1929 to the late Oscar McKinley and Minnie Nelms Nickels. In addition to her parents Eloise was also preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Salling; her son James Jeffrey Salling; a daughter, Patsy Salling Mann; sister, Nancy Perry; brothers Charlie Nickels, Earl Nickels and Claude Nickels. She accepted the Lord as her savior at the early age of 9 and was a faithful Christian throughout her life. She loved gardening and cooking for her family, neighbors and friends.

She is survived by her daughter Lois Salling Herron and husband Joe of Gate City, son-in-law Cary Mann, Kingsport; granddaughter, Amy Fields (Tim); grandsons, Ray Mann (Kitty), Chad Herron (Stephanie) Shane Herron (Kristie); great-grandsons, Caleb Hamilton Mann (Morgan) Mason Jeffery Fields, Zachary Herron, Grayson Herron, Conner Herron and Austin Potter; great-granddaughters, Katherine Starnes, Piper Herron and Amber Potter; sisters, Lucille Orsbin, Willowick, OH and Mildred Gibson, Euclid, OH; brother, Fred Nickels Dungannon, VA; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Friday May 17, at Johnson Arrowood Funeral Home, Church Hill, TN. Funeral service will follow at 7 PM with Pastor Brian Burchfield officiating. A grave side service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 11 AM at Church Hill Memory Gardens. Pallbearers are grandsons and great grandsons. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 AM to follow in procession.

The family would like to give special thanks to Tina Reed, Teana Weems, Martha White, Jackie Reeves, Teresa, Katelyn and to all who offered prayers and visited our “Little Mama”.
