Gary Walker Harrell, 76, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Holston Valley Medical Center after a short, but hard fought battle with cancer.
Gary was born to James Clay and Lyda Harrell on April 7, 1946. He was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and retired from the Mead Corporation/ Domtar. He served in the US Army. He loved traveling and riding his motorcycle. He was a loving Daddy and Papaw Gary to everyone.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Ken Hunt; and sister-in-law, Jan Harrell.
Gary is survived by his daughters, Jamie Tonnies (Bob), Beth Rimer (Wes), Garrietta Proutey (Ben); mother of his daughters, Joda Wood; grandchildren, Justin Hunt, Cody Hunt, Bailey Hunt Webb (Terence), Maddi Rimer, Jackson Tonnies, Kiernan Tonnies, and great-granddaughter-to-be, Matilda James Webb; brothers, Bill Harrell (Joyce) and David Harrell; several nieces and nephews; and fur baby “Little” Zoey.
The family wanted to give a special thank you to the nurses at the Kingsport Cancer Center for the care they gave “Papaw Gary”.
A private graveside service will be held for the family at a later date.
