CHURCH HILL, TENNESSEE
Lee Hubert Stroupe, 95 went to be with the Lord on Tuesday (April 9, 2002) at Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center following and extended illness.

Mr. Stroupe was born and raised in the Grassy Creek community of Hawkins County and had resided in Church Hill most of his life. He was a Charter member and Deacon Emeritus of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Church Hill and was a retired employee of Tennessee Eastman.

He was active in numerous clubs and political organizations, past chairman of the Hawkins County Democratic part and was a non-voting delegate to the 1952 Democratic Convention. He served in the Church Hill Ruritan Club incorporation committee. Mr. Stroupe was elected the first Mayor of the city of Church Hill. He was a member of the East Tennessee Historical Society, First Families of Tennessee and Tennessee Historical Society. He held extensive activities and research for Genealogy, Governmental/Political institutions. Political campaign badges/memorabilia, Astronomy and Photography.

He is preceded in death by his Wife, Mabel Marshall Stroupe, his parents, Rev. William “Son” and Mary Jane Thomson Stroupe, Brothers, Samuel, Johnnie McFirlon, Henry, Eli, Roy, Frank, Fitsugh, Arrie, and George Stroupe, Sisters Eliza Ward, Laura Long, Margaret Bailey, Bessie Stroupe, Clora Wagner, and Agnes Stroupe.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Janie and Jim Smithson, Chattanooga: numerous nieces and nephews, special family, friends/caretakers, Marjorie Hilton, Dr. T.H Roberson and staff of Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center.

Calling Hours are from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M Friday at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted Friday at 7:00 P.M at the First Free Will Baptist Church of Church Hill with Rev. Herman “Bud” Beverly officiating. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 A.M at Church Hill Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Carl Stroupe, Wayne Wagner, Larry Stroupe, Roy Ward, Dewey Ward, Grand Nephews and Nephews-in-law. Honorary Bearers will be past and present deacons of the First Free Will Baptist Church and past and present Mayor/ council members of the City of Church Hill.

The family requests those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Library Fund of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Church Hill.
