R.J. Richard "James" Shackelford Mount Carmel – R. J. “Richard James” Shackelford, 87, of Mount Carmel, passed away Sunday (January 6, 2013) at Brookhaven Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Shackelford was a native of Greeneville and had lived in Mount Carmel since 1952. He was a charter member and Elder of West Ridge Presbyterian Church. He was owner and operator of The Laundry Shop in Kingsport for twenty-five years. R. J. was a decorated WWII Marine having served in the Pacific. He was a boy Scout Leader of Troop 384 and was a fifty year member of Clay Masonic Lodge # 386 and was a 32nd degree Scothish Rite Mason. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ruth Elkart Shackelford and one brother, Charles Shackelford. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Canipe Shackelford, Mount Carmel; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Sandra Shackelford, Opelika, AL; James and Ginger Shackelford, Church Hill, and Chuck Shackelford of Greeneville, TN, five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence. Services will be conducted Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jim Gray and Rev. Jeff Morelock Officiating. Graveside services with military honors will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Andrew Johnson National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dickie Hutson, Caleb Hutson, Thomas Stiltner, Kent Lisenby, Keith Lisenby, Kevin Lisenby, Brian Shackelford, and Cody Gangloff. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Ridge Presbyterian Church, Mt. Carmel, TN.
