SURGOINSVILLE, TN – Willie “Pap” Thacker, age 90, of Surgoinsville passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at the Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Thacker was a life long resident of Hawkins County, and was a member of the Pink Hill Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 67 years. He retired from the City of Kingsport as a foreman with 32 years of service.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Christian Thacker in 1970, second wife, Lydia Thacker, son, Melvin Thacker, daughter, Frances Roberts, parents, Merlin and Myrtle McDavid Thacker, brothers, Mitchell Thacker, William Thacker, sisters, Eldie Crabtree, Mandy Winegar, Gracie Lindsey, Isabeth Christian, Pearlie Linkous, Ellen Stapleton. Great grandsons, James David Wilkins and Charles Thacker, Jr.

Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-laws, Charles and Joyce Thacker, Dan and Virgie Thacker all of Surgoinsville. Daughters and son-in-laws, Jannette and Dwight Roberts of Blackwater, VA, Jeri and Joe Price of Kingsport, Katherine (Susie) Wilkins of Kingsport. Son-in-law, John Marion Roberts of Kingsport, step children, Gertrude Carter of Mount Carmel, Wilma Holder of Surgoinsville, Ronnie Duncan of Surgoinsville. Grandchildren,Chad Thacker, Jeff Thacker, Jason Thacker,Michael Roberts, Penny Simcox, Jessica Swan, Scott Price, Christina Thacker, Daniel Thacker, Eric Wilkins, Butch Wilkins, Troy Roberts, Nancy Dye, Stephen Carter, Nathaniel Holder, Adam Duncan, and Adrienne Duncan, 30 Great Grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Sister-in-laws, Nadine Kimberline, Janie Christian of Surgoinsville and Peggy Parker of Rogersville, Brother-in-laws, Amon Lindsey of Kingsport, Joe Lee Linkous of Church Hill and Gene Christian of Rogersville, several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 PM Saturday, at the Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence, 580 Caney Valley Loop, Surgoinsville, TN. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday at Pink Hill Primitive Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Watts and Rev. Blake Cantwell officiating. The family will also receive friends at the church two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Thacker Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be, Chad Thacker, Jeff Thacker, Jason Thacker, Daniel Thacker, Scott Price, Troy Roberts, Butch Wilkins, Eric Wilkins and Michael Roberts.
