CHURCH HILL –Edgar Mellons, 85, went home to be with the Lord Monday (July 18, 2016) following an extended illness. Mr. Mellons was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Slip-Knot-Belting. Edgar enjoyed singing and had sang in several gospel groups. He is preceded in death by his parents, J.W. and Minnie Pearl Monroe Mellons, Brother, J.C. Mellons and sister, Ruth Adams. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Johnson Mellons; three sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and JoAnn Mellons, Michael and Sheila Mellons and Terry and Reta Mellons all of Church Hill;one daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Terry Hommel, Church Hill; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Mellons, Surgoinsville; four sisters, Marie Hutson and Brenda McLain, both of Church Hill; June Dalton, Fort Pierce, FL; Hazel Smiley, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.The family would like to thank his special caregiver, Reta Mellons for the wonderful care and to Amedisy Hospice for all that they did to help the family. Calling hours are from 5 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home and anytime at the home of his son, Terry Mellons.Services will be conducted Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with pastor Andy Sensabaugh, Pastor Greg Graybeal and Pastor Terry Hommel officiating.Graveside service s will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Church Hill Memory Gardens. Those desiring to attend should meet at the funeral home at 10:15 A.M.Pallbearers will be Jason Mellons, Ryan Mellons, Josh Mellons, Ray Collins, Caleb Hommel and Daryl Bishop. Honorary Bearers will be June Larkins, Larry Mellons, Amos Hommell, and Brett Mellons.Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home is serving the Mellons family. |
