Elmer "Hoot" Gibson KINGSPORT- Elmer "Hoot" Gibson, 71, passed away at his residence on Thursday (September 13, 2012) following an extended illness. Mr. Gibson was born in Scott County and worked at J.P. Stevens for 31 years. He was always busy doing something he enjoyed such as working in the garden and being outdoors. Elmer never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arch and Flora Gibson, an infant daughter, Kimberly Dawn, and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 14 years as of August 23, 2012, Charlotte Gibson, sons; Terry and Vance Gibson, daughter, Sherry Bowen, step sons; David and John McMillion, Keven, Luke, and Gene Collings, step daughter, Karen Looney, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Calling hours are from 5 to 7:00 P.M. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home of Church Hill and anytime at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bryan Thurman officiating. Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday at Elm Springs Cemetery. Everyone wishing to attend is asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 A.M. to go in procession. Pallbearers will be Terry, Vance, John, and David McMillion, Keven Collings, and Paul Looney.
