Church Hill, TN George Thomas Morrison, 91 passed away at home on Monday, August 4, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. George was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and a descendant of some of the early pioneering families of this region. The past sixty six years he and his wife, Gladys Sellers Morrison have lived in the Church Hill community. He was a faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities including deacon, trustee and church treasurer. He was blessed to have played a part in the establishment of the Carters Valley Mission, known today as Ridgeview Baptist Church. During WWII he honorably served his country on both the European and Middle Eastern campaign fronts. He was a member of the Kingsport American Legion #3 and the Church Hill VFW Post #9754. He retired from Tennessee Eastman Research Department in 1985 with 43 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Pearlie Morrison and brothers, Sam, Calvin and Richard Morrison and his daughter and son-in-law, Janett and Charles Hart. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Gladys Morrison of Church Hill, son; James (Julie) Morrison of Chattanooga. Grandchildren; Rachel (Nathan) Hodges of Knoxville, Dr. Jordan (Jennifer) Morrison of Chattanooga. Great grandchildren; Brianna and Caleb Hodges and Porter Morrison. Several sisters and brothers also survive him including; Hattie (Martin) Taylor, Gracie Hayes, Onie (Tilmer) Wright all of Kingsport, Brenda Matheson of Jefferson City, Diane (L.D.) Wright of Bristol, Charles (Alice) Morrison of Winston Salem, NC, Austin (Carol) Morrison of Blountville, Fred (Judy) Morrison of Corryton, TN and Harry (Juanita) Morrison of Church Hill. Calling hours are from 11 to 1 PM Thursday at the Oak Grove Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 1 PM Thursday at the Oak Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Pressnell officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Hill Memory Gardens with military rites conducted by the Hawkins County Color Guard.
