Church Hill, TNJames McClellan (Mack) Brown, age 82, passed away on August 6, 2016 amidst a gathering of family and following a time of failing health. He was born in the coal mining town of Benham, Kentucky on November 16, 1933 to Edgar McClellan Brown and Berta Christian Brown. A the age of five, following the death of his father, the family returned to their hometown of Church Hill, Tennessee where he learned the importance of good work habits and stability. He was educated in Hawkins County Schools, graduating from Church Hill High School, and soon afterwards began employment at Meade Paper. There he held supervisory and management positions and retired in 1993 after 42 years of service.Following his retirement, his daily outdoor task and farm projects of building fences and burning brush piles became his golf game, and activities with his granddaughters and family fulfilled his days and made many memories.He was active in civic affairs, coached little league football and baseball teams for several years, and served as a member of the board of directors for the Nolichucky Library Board. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Church Hill and was an active and faithful member of the Men’s Sunday School Class. His joy was sharing his faith.He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janet Lyons Brown of the home; daughter, Lizbeth Brown Smiddy and husband, Dr. Joseph Smiddy; son, William Edgar Brown and wife Julie Vance Brown; beloved granddaughters; Dr. Sarah Smiddy Youssef and husband, Dr. Shareif Youssef, Eliza Rose Smiddy, and Molly McClellan Brown; two great grandchildren, Isaac and Nora Youssef; sister Eileen Brown Collins; nieces, Shanna Lyons, Christy Lyons, Caryl Hensley, Christy Collins; nephews; Taylor Jackson and Hunter Jackson; brother-in-law, Patrick Lyons (Lora); sister-in-law’s, Polly Lyons and Nedra Lyons Jackson (Kerry).Grateful acknowledgments of longtime caregivers; Eddie Larkin, Gale Fletcher and Christy Collins, and special caregivers at Church Hill Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.Calling hours are from 5 to 7 PM Monday at the Johnson – Arrowood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted 7 PM Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gary Gerhardt officiating.Graveside services will be conducted 11 AM Tuesday at the Church Hill Memory Gardens with Hunter Jackson, Taylor Jackson, Mason Jackson, Eddie Larkin, Gale Fletcher and Mike Hensley serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Fred Pierson, Troy Alley, Bob Houchens, Lyle Shaffer, Buck Breault and Dave Rikard. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10 AM Tuesday morning to go in procession to the cemetery.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O.
