CHURCH HILL – LaVern (Slim) Winter, 82, of Church Hill, passed away Tuesday (January 26, 2016) following a lengthy illness.He was a native of Palmer, Kansas but had lived in Church Hill for the past 50 years. He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Holston Defense.He is preceded in death by his parents, C. W. and Ella Killman Winter; parents-in-law, Mack and Nannie Gardner, sister-in-law, Marge Winter, two brothers-in-law, Claude Johnson and Lawrence Oehmke.He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Ladell Gardner Winter, Church Hill; one brother, Delbert Winter, Kansas; Evelyn Johnson, OR; Madelyn Oehmke, KS; brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer and Maude Gardner, Hubert and Sharon Gardner, John and Jean Gardner, Glenn and Faye Gardner, all of Church Hill; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and numerous friends.Calling hours are from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home and anytime at the residence of Glenn Gardner.Services will be conducted Friday at 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Terry Mellons, Rev. Doug Ferrell officiating and Tyler Hensley will be bringing the eulogy.Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens.
