Church Hill, TNTom L. Patterson, age 83, of Church Hill, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the Holston Valley Hospital following an extended illness. Tom was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and was of the Baptist faith, he had worked for Alley’s Motor Company in Church Hill for several years before retiring from Western Auto in Church Hill. He had a huge influence on Bluegrass music and had played with Ralph Stanley, Bill Monroe and the Carter Family and played at the Carter Fold on Saturday nights for 30 plus years. He had his own bluegrass band for 30 years called the Lonesome Mountain Boys. Tom was a big influence on his extended family getting involved with bluegrass music.He is preceded in death by his parents; Alley and Alpha Patterson, brothers; George Patterson and Coy Patterson.Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara Edens Patterson of the home, son; Randy Patterson and wife, Kathy of Church Hill, daughter; Lisa Waycaster and husband, Richard of Church Hill, grandchildren; Travis Patterson and wife, Amy, Teresa Arnold, Michael Hopkins and wife, Franchesca, Alexis Patterson, great grandchildren; Briana and Lauren Patterson, Maia and Madison Hopkins and Logan Arnold. Brothers; Jeff Patterson and wife, Viola of Church Hill, Hugh Patterson and wife, Ruby of Church Hill, John Patterson and wife, Lois of Surgoinsville, sister; Bonnie Barr and husband, Bill of Florida. Special friends, Karen and Tony Davis and Chris Walters.Calling hours are from 1 to 2 PM Sunday, July 24, 2016 at the Johnson – Arrowood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM in the funeral home chapel with Bro Ed McLain officiating.
