Surgoinsville, TN – Virgie Lydia Stroupe Lewis, age 97, of Surgoinsville, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at her home following a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Lewis was born in Wythe County, Virginia and had lived most of her life in Sullivan and Hawkins counties. She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church and attended the Pink Hill Primitive Baptist Church. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and many other titles, and she loved her family. She was a wonderful Christian woman, who loved God with everything she had. She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Lewis, Sr. in 1991, daughter; Darlene Winstead and baby grandson; Charles Thacker, Jr. Survivors include her daughters, Carol Mauk and husband, J.E. of Kingsport and Joyce Thacker and husband, Charlie of Surgoinsville, and one son; Frank Lewis, Jr. of Lenior, NC. 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren and 3 step great great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are from 12 to 1 pm Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home with the service to follow in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Bob Lewis, Rev. James Mauk, Jr., and Rev. Richard Watts officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Hill Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be, Chad Thacker, Jeffrey Thacker, Jason Thacker, David Lewis, Paul Hall and Jordin Webb.
