GATE CITY – Margaret “Edith” Winegar, 82, entered into the gates of heaven on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Holston Valley Medical Center. Edith was born on May 4, 1937 in Gate City, VA where she resided all of her life. She was a member of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, caregiver to many, and an excellent cook. Edith was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who know her. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Winegar; parents, Elbert and Sallie Stokes Thacker; daughter-in-law, Katrina Winegar; brother, William Elbert Thacker, Jr.; sister, Leola Castle; special brother-in-law, Lynn Fields. Edith is survived by her sons, Michael Winegar and Jeffery Winegar; daughters, Diana Sluss (Stanley) and Vickie Jenkins (Lynn); grandchildren, Eric Sluss, Julie Jenkins, and Miranda Jenkins (Greg Benge); sisters, Faye Thacker and Linda Fields; several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at the Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home of Church Hill or anytime at her residence. A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Larry Tolley officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Plum Grove Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:00 AM to go in procession. Pallbearers will be David Fields, Michael Fields, David Allen McWhirter, William Winegar, Nathan Mauk, and Greg Benge. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lynn Jenkins and Stanley Sluss.
