CHURCH HILL – James W. “Jim” Monroe, 80, went to be with his Lord & Savior on Thursday, September 26, 2019 in Church Hill. He was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County. He graduated from Church Hill High School and was a member of Valley View Missionary Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army as a SPC (4) and was honorably discharged after 3 years of service. He retired from Eastman Kodak after 32 years of service. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Jean D. Monroe; sons, Les D. Monroe and Ronnie Monroe; parents, Roy L. Monroe and Ida J. Monroe; brothers, Paul Monroe and Oscar Monroe; sisters, Ella Mae Herrron, Alberta “Bert” Byington, Cornnie Taylor, Anna Monroe, Ethel Surcey, Edna Edwards, Marjorie “Margie” Peek, and Helen Emigholz. James is survived by his sisters, Doris Johnson of FL and Geneva Cobb of NJ; granddaughters, Kayla E. Adams (Daniel) and Madison Brickey (David), great grandchildren, Kylar Monroe Adams, Kaleena Skye Adams, and Norah Mae-Ann Brickey; special family members, Anita Goad, Mylinda Dingus, Dathon Dingus, and Payton Dingus; special dog, Shasta; along with several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 30, 2019 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Neil Easley officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Morning Star Cemetery. Those wishing to go in procession are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Tuesday morning. Pallbearers will be Michael Yates, Michael Bradshaw, Larry Bradshaw, BJ Hutson, David Brickey, Daniel Adams, and Gary Monroe.
