CHURCH HILL- Eckel Wallen, 74, of 158 Wallen Town Road, passed away Saturday (August 17, 2002) at Wellmont Holton Valley Hospital & Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Wallen was a native of Scott County, Virginia and had spent most of his life in Hawkins County. He was a member of Stony Point Baptist Church in Hiltons, Virginia. He was preceded in death by one son, Paul Gilbert and grand-daughter, Elizabeth Gilbert, his parents, Alex and Addie Barnette Wallen, four sisters, Maude Ethel Wallen, Myrtle Wallen, Victoria Walker and Faye Hurst, eight brothers, Gilbert, Jess, John, Ray, Henderson, Charlie, Leonard, and Frank Wallen. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Reed Wallen, Church Hill; one daughter, Deborah Presley, Eatonton, Georgia; six sons, Marvin Crawford, Kingsport; Jeffrey Wallen, Eckel Ivan Wallen, Jr. Earl Wallen, Jonathan Wallen all of Church Hill; Christopher Wallen, Mount Carmel; 14 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren; two brothers; Edd Wallen and Fred Wallen both of Church Hill; five sisters, Lula Mae Crawford and Macy Crawford both of Mount Carmel; Martha Fincher, Surgoinsville; Rose Minton, Church Hill; Mary Hurst, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence. Services will be conducted Sunday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. William Berry officiating. Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Jones Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Johnny McDavid, Joshua Sams, Jacob Blankenbecker, Donnie Wallen, Jessie Crawford and Andy Crawford.
