CHURCH HILL – David Kelly Morton, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Friday June 7, 2024, at Holston Valley Medical Center. David is preceded in death by his parents, Kelly and Mary Morton, brothers; Bill and Donnie Morton; sister, Mary Bailey; mother and father-in-law, Bill and Verdie Lee Christian; sister-in-law, Angela England; brother-in-law, Jim McLain; niece Susan Bailey and sister-in-law, Ann Morton. Survivors include his wife, Veronica of 57 years (soon to be 58 years on June 24), son and daughter-in-law, Kelly and Lisa Morton, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law; Tonie and Keith Arnold, Bill and Carol Christian, Yvonne and Doug Wagner, Vicki McLain, Janice Morton Eaton, and Roger Bailey. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins. David was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he and Veronica were married. During David’s illness, he could not attend church and he would talk about how he missed going to church. He worked at Eastman for 32 years and after his retirement, he worked at Silver Lake Golf Course and The Crossings for many years. He loved to play golf and loved to watch sports. He was a big fan of racing in the area and NASCAR. Calling hours 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mount Carmel. The funeral service will be held at 7:00 pm with Reverend Benny Keck and Pastor Todd Haley officiating. Music will be provided by Oak Grove Baptist Church Choir and the Lighthouse Quartet. A Graveside service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews: Tony Morton, Scott Christian, Jim Arnold, Jeff England, Todd Wagner, Chris England, Jimmy McLain, Ryan Wagner, Rodney McLain, and Bryan Henderson. The Morton Family would like to thank all the family and friends that have checked on David through his illness and the doctors and nurses in the ICU at Holston Valley Hospital for taking exceptionally good care of David in his last few days.
