Noreen, Lynda, and Charles, I am praying for comfort and peace for you during this time. I remember singing in the choir with Chuck and he was always so sweet, caring and helped people any way he could. Some day we will see him again.

Chuck asked me to go canoeing with him not too long after we moved in next door. I didn't know him. I didn't even know how he got my number. But he did and kindly invited me to go canoeing with him. I was stunned by his invitation out of the blue, as it was, that I assumed that this was Chuck's way of discussing an indiscretion on my part. Perhaps I was mowing over onto his property or I was being too loud? I didn't know. I couldn't think of anything we were doing that could annoy anyone. We were on the water by 930 that Saturday. We paddled upstream then took a break. Chuck shared his snacks. He pointed out the different birds that had accompanied us. The topic of the yard never came up. He didn't mention if I was being too loud next door. He didn't say anything about where I should be putting my trash can on Monday mornings. No complaint was uttered. I came home to my wife, who was anxious to hear what we had done so that we could remedy it. She said, "So what did we do wrong?" "Nothing.", I said, "He just wanted to go canoeing." And with that, our canoeing trips became a regular Summer Saturday treat for me and, later, my kids. We'll miss Chuck.

When my daughter was old enough, he asked if she could join us on our canoeing trips.

So sorry to hear about your dad , Lynda. Although I never met him I remember you talking kindly and respectfully of him. Prayers are with you and your family.
