Elmer Lee Mabe, 83, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in the arms of Jesus on August 6, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Elmer was born on June 3, 1941, to Elmer Lee, and Blanche (Rimer) Mabe, in Baltimore, Maryland. He worked at Tennessee Eastman Co. from 1962 until he retired in 2003. After his retirement, Elmer enjoyed his frequent assembly with his McDonald’s Breakfast Club, telling stories from the porch rocking chair and most importantly his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Lee and Nora Gonce Mabe; his beloved son, Gregory Lee Mabe; brother, Charles Lowell Mabe; sister, Emily Bullion; great granddaughter, Eva Natalya Hasting; and mother of his children, Audrey.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Carmen Harold (Brian), Rhonda Brownlee (David); brother, Gary Lynn Mabe (Renita); granddaughters, Jessica Gonce (Adam), Jamie Mabe (Shirley Bui), Ryeisa Hasting (Ronnie), Casey Davis (Dwayne), Grace Brownlee, Norah Harold (Ethan Sargent), and Avaree Mabe (Chandler McElyea); grandsons, David Modzelewski (Amanda), Aaron Modzelewski, Jesse Modzelewski (Emily), and Carter Brownlee; great grandchildren, Amelia, Garrison, and Quentin Hasting, Camille and Canter Modzelewski, and Jada, Roma, and Leah Davis; nieces, Ashley Mabe, Brittany Dillender (Sam), and Karen Burchfield (James); as well as several special friends that have loved him dearly.
We would like to thank the ICU, CCS, and W3 staff at Holston Valley, as well as the ER staff at Indian Path for taking excellent care of our beloved granddad.
A visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 PM on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mitch Russell officiating. A graveside service will follow the funeral service in procession to Hawkins County Memorial Gardens.
Servig as pallbearers will be David, Aaron, and Jesse Modzelewski, Carter Brownlee, Dwayne Davis, and Ethan Sargent. Honorary pallbearers will be Garrison Hasting, Quentin Hasting, Canter Modzelewski, Adam Gonce, Ronnie Hasting, Joe Marsh, and Chandler McElyea.
