CHURCH HILL – James Ray “Snake” Cavin, 69, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at his residence.
He was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and was of the Baptist faith. Ray was a member of McPheeters Bend Baptist Church but attended Grassy Creek Freewill Baptist Church. He was a US Navy Veteran. Ray was an avid UT fan and loved sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Hobert and Lucille Begley Cavin; twin sister, Helen Faye Crain.
Ray is survived by his daughter, Tonya Cavin Lord; grandchildren, Emily Jane Lord and Sara Faye Lord; mother of his daughter, Janice Cavin; sisters, Hilda Tapp and Kris Lumpkins (Randy); several nieces and nephews.
Due to the state restrictions of COVID-19, a private funeral service will be held at McPheeter Bend Cemetery for the family at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 24, 2020.
Pallbearers will be Charles Steffey, Stevie Arnold, Daniel Tapp, Randy Lumpkins, Wade Lumpkins, Lance Crain, and Brian Cavin.
