Matthew 25:21 – “His Lord said unto him, Well done thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”
CHURCH HILL – Jerry M. Quillen, 52, won his battle over cancer Sunday, December 31st, 2017, surrounded by his family at home.
Jerry was born October 17, 1965 to the late Hagan and Phyllis Quillen. He attended Volunteer High School where he played football. He was a pressman at Kingsport Times News for 33 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Hagan and Phyllis Taylor Quillen and father-in-law, Douglas McArther Tignor.
Jerry is survived by the love of his life, Tina Tignor Quillen, daughter Brandi Quillen, and son Michael Quillen. He was a great example of a husband and father. Jerry was incredibly proud of his family.
He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Hagan Quillen Jr (Nennia), sisters and brothers-in-law, Teresa Q. Helton (Kenny), Traci Q. Stewart (Rusty), brothers-in-law Doug A. Tignor (Stephanie), Scott Tignor, Jason Tignor (Jenn), and mother-in-law, Kathy Tignor, as well as many loved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jerry was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church. Pastor Jon Rogers, Pastor Dustin Jessee, and the congregation played an important part in Jerry’s battle over the last year and a half.
In his adult life, Jerry, like his mother, “adopted” the elderly in his neighborhood and felt privilege to serve them. Later, his dream was to participate in a mission trip. While he didn’t travel abroad with a team, every hospital he visited from Kingsport to Houston became his mission field. Jerry smiled through difficult times and made sure no one left his room without hearing about the love and hope of his Savior, Jesus.
If anyone has been touched by Jerry, his journey and mission over the last 16 months, please feel free to leave a note or card in his Mission Memory box in front of Ridgeview Baptist. These will be placed in a journal for his wife and children to cherish.
Visitation hours will be from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday Jan. 2 2017 at the Ridgeview Baptist Church. Funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 PM with Rev. Jon Rogers officiating. Graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday Jan. 3 at Longs Bend Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:00 PM to go in procession.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ridgeview Baptist Mission Fund in memory of Jerry.
