KINGSPORT – Mary Frances Hartgrove, 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 8, 2023, with her family by her side.
Mary was born in Knoxville, TN on February 5, 1930, was raised in Hawkins Co. and resided in Kingsport, TN for the remainder of her life. She was a member of Kingsport Community Church and was a faithful servant for the Lord her whole life. Sundays were the Lord’s Day and family day for Mary. She cooked for her family every Sunday and enjoyed every minute of time spent with her precious family. Everyone always looked forward to Sunday’s at Mamaw’s house. She was a housekeeper, and worked until she was 88 years old. Some of the families she had worked for, for over 50 years, and they became like family to her. Mary was a sweet soul with a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Lois (Dew) Bradshaw; husband, William Cecil “C” Hartgrove; sister, Mildred Fleenor; and her brothers, Lynn, Arch, Harold, Earl, Elmer, and Charlie.
Mary is survived by her children, Linda Carter, William “Bill” Hartgrove (Pam), Frankie Carpenter, Richard Hartgrove, and Susan “Dicy” Chapman; sister, Carol Sage; brother, Bobby Bradshaw; special “sister”, Barbara Smith; grandchildren, Randy (Amy), Joely (Brian), April (Kevin), Rachel (Eric), Becky (Chad), Heather (Mickey), Will (Drew), Mary Beth, Ashley, David, Jordan, and Sarah (Jason); great grandchildren, Whitney (Tyler), Morgan, Christian (Brittney), Josh, Ella, McKenzie, Hayleigh, Hannah, Macie, Kendra, Taylor (Dristen), Brandon, Ajah, Brayden, Adia, Soli, Mikayla, Lizzy, Alex, Maddox, Greyson, Melah, Jenna, and Emrie; great great grandchildren, and 2 on the way; several nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family members and dear friends.
A visitation will be held from 11:00-1:00 PM, on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Steven Collins officiating. A graveside service will follow to Old Union Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Way, Chad Culbertson, Tyler Hatfield, Brandon Marsh, Randy Carpenter, Jason Brown, Brayden Everhart, and Jordan Teague.
The family would like to give special thanks to the entire staff and residents of Margie’s Meadow at The Villages at Allandale for the love and care given to Mary, and to her special roommate, Donna, for keeping Mary out of trouble, and caring for her.
