Church Hill, TN – Mildred Thurman Gibbons, age 91, of Church Hill, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the Indian Path Hospital following a brief illness with her daughter by her side. Mrs. Gibbons was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Church Hill, where she served as president of her Sunday School Class for several years.She is preceded in death by her husband; Charles Gibbons in 1989, and her son; Ronnie Gibbons in 2002, her parents; M.D. & Pearl D. Thurman, Sr., brother; M.D. Thurman, Jr., brother-in-law’s; Donald Davidson and Alvin Goins.Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law; Teresa & James Phillips, Sisters; Imogene Davidson, Agnes Minor and husband, Reed, Louise Goins, brother; James Howard Thurman and wife, Sharon, daughter-in-law; Katherine Gibbons, sister-in-law; O’Dell Thurman, step-granddaughter; Stephanie Sorrell, cousin; Alma Williams and several nieces and nephews. Special friends; Sandy Schammel, Polly Lyons, Janet Brown, Nedra Jackson and Linda Grandy.Calling hours are from 5 to 7 pm Monday at the First Baptist Church of Church Hill, and anytime at the residence of her daughter. Funeral services will be conducted 7 pm Monday at the church with Rev. Gary Gerhardt, Rev. Mitch Russell and Rev. Wayne Baker officiating.Graveside services will be conducted 11 am Tuesday at the Oak Hill Cemetery with Troy Alley, Roger Christian, Mike Redman, Eddie Gibbons, Danny Blair, Kerry Jackson and Mark Derrick serving as pallbearers.
