MT. CARMEL – Reba N. Crawford, 86 passed away peacefully after a long battle of dementia at Church Hill Life Care Center on April 28, 2020.
She was born on January 11, 1934. Reba played basketball while attending Shoemaker High School and later as an adult, she loved to crochet and to sew. Her talent for sewing was such that she created many beautiful dresses for her daughters (they wore them proudly). Cooking was another thing she loved to do. Birthdays for her children were made special by the birthday cakes she created. Reba was a caring nurse having worked at Holston Valley Hospital, Brookhaven Nursing Home, and later as a personal care assistant for many people. After her retirement, she enjoyed her first beach trip and several fun-filled trips to Amish Country in Lancaster, PA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Nannie Akers; her special grandmother who was like a second mother to her, Easter Louisa Lane (MA); sister, Dalphine France; brother, Coy Akers; husband, Preston Crawford.
Reba is survived by her daughters, T.J. Archer (Tim), Kingsport; Edie Lane, Gray; sons, Charlie Darrell Tipton (Reta), Church Hill; Henry Crawford, (Sultona) Mt. Carmel; grandchildren, Pamela Elam, Kingsport; David Jennings, Kingsport; Erin Gregory (Will), Lee’s Summit, MO; Holly Lane, Rogersville; Christopher Tipton (Becky), Church Hill; Eric Tipton (Sara), Church Hill; Brandon Crawford, Mt. Carmel, Jason Crawford, Mt. Carmel, Kayla Crawford, Mt. Carmel; also several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and by brothers, Kenneth Akers (Margie), Weber City; Lonnie Akers (Cleo), Kingsport; Don Akers (Donna) Duffield; and sister-in-law Billie Akers, Duffield.
Per Reba’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private graveside service will be at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carmel, TN. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
God has you in His keeping, I have you in my heart. You will be missed greatly, Mommy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
