KINGSPORT – Roger Peters, 74, fought a long struggle with a wicked disease known as Cancer. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends.
He was a native of Carter County growing up in the Stoney Creek area. He graduated from Unaka High School in 1961. In March of 1977, he moved to Kingsport, where he and his family remained ever since. He was employed by Lowe’s Home Improvement for over 30 years. He retired from the Stone Drive Store.
On the weekends and his spare time, he, his wife, and daughter would get on a tour bus and travel all over the U.S. bringing the gospel to man. Roger sang in groups such as: The Psalmsmen, The Ambassadors and Kathy, The Messengers, The Declaration’s, Potter’s Clay, The Miracles, Harvest Time Quartet and the Brotherhood Quartet. Roger had been called “the best Bass singer in the world”.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Francis” Nan” Wills and step-dad Riley Wills, father Elwayne Peters and step-mother Elsie Peters, youngest brother Greg Peters, and infant brother that died at birth Larry Wayne Peters.
Rogers is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years Brenda Peters, a loving daughter April Castle, husband Allen, grandchildren Alasyn Castle and Jordan Arnold, Stephanie Castle and Jurmal Watts, Jeff Castle and LeeAnn Compton, Brittany Castle, great grandchildren Devinah Arnold, Jaidan Watts, Arianna Castle, and Taylin Light, brother Randy Peters, sisters Brenda Bailey, Karen Wilson, & Linda Wills along with many special friends that have been here for him through out it all. The family can not thank you enough for you love and compassion, Unaka High School Class of 61 especially.
The family would like to thank H.L. Johnson & Johnson-Arrowood funeral home for making this funeral transition a bit easier by handling his wishes with the utmost respect.
Roger’s last wishes was to be cremated. He requested no memorial service or celebration of life service, as Roger had stated, he celebrated his life while he was here.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Research Center in Roger’s memory.
The family will receive family and friends at the residence in Kingsport. Please call before you come as to insure the family will be there.
The family would like to send out a special thank you to all the nurses and nurse practitioner from Bristol Wellmont Hospice care.” It takes a very special person with a big heart to do what you all do.
