CHURCH HILL – Verna Gilbert, 85, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2018 at Asbury Place at Baysmont.
Verna was a praying woman who trusted in God. She loved to attend her church First Freewill Baptist Church of Morrison City and sing in the choir. She always loved to visit family and friend and cook. Verna always would have a smile and a word for the Lord. She worked 30 plus years at Aladdin Plastic and retired in 2003. She was the best mother a daughter could have.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years of marriage, Thurman C. Gilbert; parents, Thomas P. and Leah Maggie Booker McLain; sisters, Gladys Burchfield, Ethlee Cradic, and Ada Smith; brothers, Ed McLain, Elmer McLain, and Jack McLain; sisters-in-law, Opal McLain, Blanche McLain, and Ilene Ward; brothers-in-law, Allie Smith, S.J. Burchfield, Troy Dobbs, Gene Blevins, and Herman Cradic.
Verna is survived by her daughter, Sandra Gilbert; sisters, Vesta Dobbs, Naomi Blevins, and Lola Henry (Wayne); sister-in-law, Brenda McLain; along with several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Brian Capps officiating. Music will be provided by True Faith Quartet. The burial will follow in McPheeters Bend Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gary Cradic, Eugene Dobbs, Carrol Smith, Randy Long, Keith Hammonds, & David Riner. Honorary Pallbearer will be Freddie Castle.
