Rogersville, TN Vernon J. Simpson, age 78, of Rogersville passed away Friday, September 12, 2014 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Simpson was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and was a retired heavy equipment operator. He was of the Baptist faith. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dowl & Eva Simpson, brothers, Eugene, Glyn and Arlene Simpson. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Bonnie Ward Simpson of the home, daughters, Wanda Jones of Rogersville, Wilma Dearstone and husband, Lynn of Greeneville, TN, Glenda Williams and husband, Adam of Chucky, TN, son, Scottie Simpson and wife, Penny of Rogersville. 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, Brother, Russell Simpson of Port Clinton, Ohio, sisters, Ruth Jones of Columbus, Ohio and Edna Fletcher of Surgoinsville. Calling hours are from 12 to 2 PM Sunday at the Johnson – Arrowood Funeral Home, and anytime at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted 2 PM Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Rex McMurray and Rev. David Morelock officiating. Burial will follow in the Harris Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gail McMurray, Mike McMurray, Luke Williams, Landon Williams, Jeremy White, Paden Crumley, Steven Scharnakau and Brian Thacker. Evan Crumley will serve as honorary pallbearer.
