CHURCH HILL – Wanda Jewell (Smith) Jayne. 69, passed away peacefully at Holston Valley Medical Center on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, after a brief illness, with her loving husband of 44 years by her side.
Wanda was loved by everyone and had a genuine love for children. Wanda graduated from Church Hill High School. She retired from Kingsport Press/Quebecor after 30 years of service. After her retirement, she worked for the Hawkins County School System as a Teacher’s Aide in Special Education, where she was employed for 10 years. Wanda loved working with the staff and clients at the Chip Hale Center (Helping Hands) in Rogersville, TN where she was a volunteer. She was an active member of North Fork Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, Kevin Emerson Jayne in 1979, her mother, Bernice Dykes Smith, father, Nelson Smith, brother, Leon Smith, and mother-in-law, Eva Jayne.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Clyde Emerson Jayne, daughter, Amy Christina Jayne, of the home; four nephews, Brian Smith and wife, Amber, Joey Williams and wife Kelley, Eric Scott and girlfriend, Iris Lish, Jason Scott, and wife Freedom; one niece, Rebecca Scott Mills and husband, Todd; special great-nephew, Hayden Smith; two sisters-in-law, Polly Jayne Williams and husband, John, and Katherine Jayne Scott and husband, Gerald.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 pm. with Rev. Chip McLain, Rev. Allen Payne, and Rev. Heath Smith officiating. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Christian’s Bend Cemetery, Church Hill, TN. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:00 PM to go in procession.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Scott, John Williams, Brian Smith, and Daryl Jayne.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons at North Fork Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wanda’s memory to: Chip Hale Center, 310 Hasson Street, Rogersville, TN 37857.
