Church Hill – William P. Britton, Jr., 85, of Church Hill, passed away Saturday (December 12, 2015) at Indian Path Medical Center following an extended illness.Bill was a lifelong resident of Church Hill and was a charter member of The First Baptist Church of Church Hill and was a retired employee of Holston Defense. He was a member of Clay Masonic Lodge # 386 and the Knoxville Consistory of Scottish Rite Masons.He is preceded in death by his parents, W. Phipps, Sr. and Annis Ruth Brown Britton.He is survived by his wife, Billie Sue Edens Britton, Church Hill; one son, David Gillenwater and partner, Kenneth Clits, Atlanta, GA; one daughter, Ginger Burton, Mount Carmel; one sister, Jeanne Cary, Greenville, SC; two grandchildren, Andrew and Sarah Burton.Calling hours are from 5 to 7 P.M. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Church Hill and anytime at the residence.Services will be conducted Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Gerhardt and Rev. Victor Wallace officiating. A masonic memorial service conducted by Clay Masonic Lodge # 386 will follow the funeral service.Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Harrell Cemetery in Surgoinsville.Pallbearers will be Andrew Burton, Troy Alley, Chad McLain, David Calhoun, William Price, Chuck Culbertson and Terry Yankee.The family request those desiring may make memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church of Church Hill.
