MOUNT CARMEL – Ronald McMurray, 68, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024. Ronald was born and raised in Hawkins County, TN, to the late Jess and Edith (Barrett) McMurray. After graduating from Church Hill High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for six years. He then returned home to Mt. Carmel, TN, and took a position at the post office while earning his degree at ETSU in business administration. After completing his degree, he went to work with the United States Federal Postal Inspection Service as a postal inspector for 20 years before retiring to enjoy time with family and friends.

Ron, Dad, Papaw, Uncle Ron, G-paw, as he was known to many, never met a stranger because he could find a way to relate to you. He was always concerned for others and was truly selfless. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, and there was always laughter and stories to be told. His hobbies included his love for the Tennessee Volunteers, great food, fishing, golf, but most of all, watching his granddaughters and his great nieces and nephews’ sports activities.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Bea McMurray, and great-nephew Titus Jones. Left to cherish his memory are his sons Travis McMurray, Tara, Kevin McMurray, Billie, daughters Christa Dobbs, Jason, Kim White, Doug, grandchildren Piper McMurray, Hailey Hernandez, Helena Hernandez, Riley Dobbs, Gray Dobbs, Ashlynn Edgerton, Cody, great-granddaughter Lyla Edgerton, brother Darrel McMurray, Shelia, Rita Linkous, and a host of loving nieces and nephews, son in spirit Ken Barnes, and brother in spirit David Bays (old friend).

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday , January 17, 2024, at McPheeters Bend Cemetery, 430 Church Road, Church Hill, TN 37642, with Pastor Roger Gray officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:45 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Salvation Army, or Of One Accord Ministries in Church Hill in Ronald’s memory.

Serving as pallbearers are Kevin McMurray, Chris Jones, Dustin Jones, Adam McMurray, Jason Dobbs, and Doug White. Honorary pallbearers are Maddox Jones, Silas Jones, Henry Jones, and Cody Edgerton.

Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home of Church Hill is honored to serve the McMurray family.
