CHURCH HILL – Avis Timothy Wright (62) earned his wings and departed this life on Friday, April 19th, 2024, after an extended illness. He lived most of his life as a resident of Church Hill, TN.

Avis Wright was born May 21st, 1961 to parents Grover and Norma (Maggard) Wright in Manassas, Virginia. Avis, best known to family and Friends as “Moe”, was a rambunctious and adventurous kid. He loved being outdoors fishing and camping on the Shenandoah river. Avis grew up to be a very caring and giving man. He was a devoted and loyal father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. He was a soldier and a brother to all he served with in Germany, Desert Storm, and all through his army career. Those who were privileged enough to know “Moe” will continue to keep his memories dear and close to their hearts.

Avis Timothy Wright is preceded in death by his parents Grover and Norma Wright.

He is survived by his daughter, Nikki Wright (Greeneville); three grandchildren, Draven Keys, Damien Keys and Kaylynn Keys, Church Hill; sisters, Phyllis (Sandy) Fenner, Manassas Va., Cherry Wright, Church Hill, and Teresa (Rickey) Taylor, Church Hill; brothers, Winston (Bo) Wright, Surgoinsville, and Ronnie Wright, Kingsport; special friends, Donnie Calhoun, Ryan Keys and Sandi “Salley” Gardner; and several nieces and nephews who loved their “Uncle Moe”.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home, and anytime at Sandi Gardner’s house. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3/265. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:45 PM.
