CHURCH HILL – Bill Lyons Hurd, 76, entered his Heavenly Home on Friday (April 17, 2015)Lyons was a graduate of Surgoinsville High School. His passion was playing Basketball where heLettered five years. He began playing on the varsity team in the 8th grade and by his senior year had been offered three sports scholarships. Lyons continued his love for basketball, playing for the City of Kingsport and coaching various teams in Sullivan and Hawkins counties. He enjoyed all sports especially UT Games.Lyons was true to his faith and was a member of Fudges Chapel United Methodist Church. He was retired from Quebecor Printing with 43 years’ service and seven years with Mid Paco Paper Company. Lyons was a loving and caring husband, father, step father and Papaw. He loved his family and cherished all the many friendships he made through the years.He is preceded in death by his parents by his parents, Newt and Hazel Hurd, brother, N. W. Hurd and wife, Geraldine, infant brother, Gene Hurd.He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Janice Boyd Hurd, Church Hill; daughter, Sonya Sams and husband Richard; step sons, Stacy Vaughan and wife, Samantha; Brandon Vaughan and wife, Heather; grandchildren, Corey LeVin, Whitney Sams, Christopher, Kaylee and Ethan Vaughan; nephews, Randy Hurd, Gerald Hurd and wife, Amy; special cousins, Maxine Hurd, Jeanette Skelton and Helen Christian, Sisters-in-law, Carol Stewart, Penny Rutledge and husband, Dan; special niece, Jessica Richards.The family would like to thank all family, friends and neighbors for all their help, kindness and concerns during Lyons illness.Calling hours are from 5 to 7 P.M. Monday at the Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.Services will be conducted Monday at 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Randy Lantz officiating and eulogy by Charles Isley. Music provided by the True Faith Quartet and Courtney Jones.Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at Fudges Chapel Cemetery.
