MT. CARMEL- Doris Lee Smith, 84, passed away at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center on Friday (August 22, 2014). She was born in Illinois and attended Mt. Olive Church. Doris was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved playing music and could play several instruments such as, piano, organ, guitar, and mandolin. Mrs. Smith married her husband, Donald, 56 years ago in Gate City, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Edith Cariens, brother, Clifford Cariens, sisters, Veda Withrow, and Linda Prosise. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Donald Eugene Smith, sons, Clifford Leon Farra and his wife, Patricia, Jody Dean Farra and his wife, Virginia, daughters, Donna Marie Baker and her husband, Ron, Tina Faye Church and her husband, Tim, sister, Ruby Griffith, grandchildren, Tandy Farra, Brett, Bradley, and Matthew Baker, Ryan and Amanda Church, great grandchildren, Madaline, Chloe, and several step great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are from 5 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Johnson – Arrowood Funeral Home of Church Hill and anytime at the home of Donald Smith. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Kenneth Christian officiating. Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at McPheeters Bend Cemetery. Everyone wishing to attend is asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 A.M. Pallbearers will be family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Olive Bible Church.
