Coach Reed was my first track coach and freshman baseball coach at Gate City. He was always there for us. He was always poking fun at us for our long hair. He was a great mentor for young men for many years. God surely blessed all who had a chance to play for him.

My thoughts and prayers are with Bobbie and Jon and all the family. Sarge was a wonderful person and served his County well as a Supervisor at Large and employee of the Scott County School System. He was a friend to everyone and was a caring person who loved his Lord. Rest in peace Sarge. Shirley Blalock

Special memories for Coach Reed at Gate City High School. He was a great friend that meant exactly what he said. I highly respected him for this! Class of 1975.

My deepest sympathies to Coach Reed's family. Jon I'm sorry to hear this. I lost my dad in 2020. It's so hard. Sarge Reed's dedication to his family and community was nothing short of amazing. The positive impact he had on so many young men and women in multiple high schools as a coach and teacher should be humbling to the rest of us. We will all be seeing you soon Coach. Enjoy your new found peace and freedom. Who knows, maybe we will be allowed to play some football besides that river that flows from God's throne someday. I look forward to it. I call dibs as Jesus for my teams quarterback though! Lol, Rest in Peace my friend.

Had Coach Reed for 8th grade civics at AHS. 4th period lunch time - 90 minutes. WLSD had a program called Coach's Corner was like 1978. One Friday, he came to the classroom told us to go to lunch, get lost, be quiet and don't get caught. (or something to that effect) No one did. When he left AHS, whoever announced it said that time and distance from home had 'taken it's toll'. It's only been since driving a lot for work did I finally understand those words from long ago. Did not see him again until he brought Terry Kilgore to a football game to introduce him to the Bulldog faithful. Still voting for Kilgore! RIP Coach. Prayers for his family and close friends.
