Church Hill – Glen “Doc” Allen, Sr., also known as “Papaw”, age 73, of Church Hill, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center. Doc was born in Rome, GA but had spent majority of his life in Church Hill. He retired from AFG Industries on February 1, 2000 after 35 plus years of service, and was a member of the Local Union #456. He was veteran of the United States Army and was a Christian and devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Church Hill.Doc enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren, he was a talented man that enjoyed working with wood, building things, cooking and could do most anything that needed to be done. Anyone that was blessed to spend time with Doc Learned real quick that he was a strong Christian man and very proud of his children and grandchildren. He touched many people over his life, young or old, stranger or friend, by helping in some way or providing encouragement. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Deloras Ann Allen in November of 2014, his parents; Samford and Lyda Crawford Allen and brothers; John and Bill Allen.Survivors include his children; Glen Allen, Jr. and wife, Pam of Church Hill, Tammy Barton and husband, Robert Jr. of Church Hill, Tony Allen and wife, Lori of Church Hill and Angela Bellamy and husband, Jason of Kingsport. Grandchildren; Justin Barton and wife, Caitlin, Heath Allen, Ashley Barton Linkous and husband, Brandon, Kihley Bellamy, Sydney Allen, Jackson Bellamy, Braden Allen, Anna Allen, Robby Barton, Jonathan Barton and wife Donna and one great grandson; Ian Barton. Brother; Bobby “Cot” Allen of Indiana and Bonnie Allen of Texas, several nieces and nephews.Calling hours are from 5 to 8 pm Friday at the Johnson – Arrowood Funeral Home and anytime at the residence of his son, Tony Allen.Funeral services will be conducted 8 pm Friday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mitch Russell officiating. Graveside services will be conducted 10 am Saturday at the Bowser Cemetery with Glen Allen, Jr., Tony Allen, Jason Bellamy, Justin Barton, Heath Allen, Jonathan Barton Braden Allen and Jackson Bellamy serving as pallbearers.
