CHURCH HILL – Hiram H. Bowlin, Jr, 103, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was known for his quick wit and fun approach to life and had a passionate heart.

“H” was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Church Hill, where he served as a deacon. He was a Royal Arch Mason in the Kingsport Masonic Lodge, a Scottish Rite 32 Degree Mason, Knoxville, a member of the Tri Cities Jericho Temple and a member of Eastern Star, Fairview 80, Church Hill.
As a veteran of World War II, he served 22 months with the third army under General Patton in Germany, earning several medals, including the Bronze Star for heroic achievement. “H” retired from Eastman Kodak after 39 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Sibyl King Bowlin; daughter, Carolyn Bowlin Flynn; son, Edgar Dale Bowlin; parents, Hiram H., Sr. and Maggie Snapp Bowlin; stepmother, Alda Caldwell Bowlin; sisters, Ina Trent, Cleta Cox, Lula Parker Calhoun; his second wife, Eulah Bowlin; and his stepdaughter, Betty Wilder.

Hiram is survived by his son, Howard Bowlin (Linda); daughter, Phyllis Murray (Cleates); 9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; stepdaughter, Sandy Culbertson (Chuck); one step granddaughter; two step grandsons; several nieces and nephews; as well as many extended family members, and dear friends.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home in Church Hill. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gary Gerhardt and Rev. Dustin Jessee officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at East Lawn Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home by 12:00 PM to go in procession. Pallbearers will be Lynn Parker, Troy Alley, Kermit Housewright, Eddie Pyles, Lou Buckley, and Mike Culbertson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Killen, and Tim Sparks.
