KINGSPORT – Iris “Granny” Kate McLain Simpson, 79, passed away Sunday (October 25, 2015) at Holston Valley Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Born and raised in the Van Hill Community of Hawkins County to Don and Polly McLain. Granny moved to Kingsport in 1975 and lived on Ridgecrest Avenue until the time of her death. A quite woman of faith, Granny loved her family and friends more than herself. She was a friend to all and showed Godly hospitality and love to all she met.In additions to her parents, Granny is preceded in death by her daughter, Juanita Lynne McLain, grandson, B.J. McLain, beloved nephew, Jimmy Ball; sisters, Sissy Ann McLain and Lola Wilcox; brothers, Don “Budge” McLain, Jr., Billy and Jim McLain.Granny Kate is survived by her husband of 55 years, Milbern “Tip” Simpson and beloved Boston Terrier D.O.G./Bulldog, of the home; daughters and sons-in –law, Margaret and Lee Stallard, Kingsport; Susan and Mel Hartman, Johnson City, TN/Sioux Falls, SD; sons and daughters-in-law, Louis and Lisa Simpson, Pleasant View, TN; Joey and Brenda Simpson, Kingsport; granddaughters, Ashley Stallard, Nikki McLain, Amanda Simpson, Jessica Arrington and Jaqueline Montemarano; grandsons, Joshua Simpson, Rusty Frazier and Stephen Frazier; great grandchildren, Harley and Ozzie Arnold, Gus Hunter, Waylon, Jada Kate and Nia Webb; Brian “Jasper” Simpson and Alexa Bellamy; Aaliyah and Skylar Strahan; Victor and Richard Montemarano; sister, Pauline “Pooh” Ball, Rogersville; brother, Joe Paul McLain, Summerville, SC; sister-in-law, Olena McLain, special great niece and family, Jimmie D. (Ball) and Johnny Salyer, Dakota, Hayley and Drew, special adopted daughter, Alyce Bush; and a host of extended family both Simpsons and McLain’s and many special friends and neighbors.A special thank you to the nurses and caregivers at Holston Valley Hospital 5th floor ICU, 5th Floor step-down unit and 3rd floor Wilcox Hall as well as a great big thank you to her doctors, Dr. Curtis Jantzi, Shane Daniel, PA at HMG Family Practice and in the hospital, Dr. Tonya Carr and Dr. Richard Dickson.Calling hours are from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home and anytime at the residence, 1371 Ridgecrest Avenue, Kingsport.Services will be conducted Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. in the funeral Home Chapel with Rev.
