James Heiskell Rogan CHURCH HILL – James Heiskell Rogan, 75, passed away on Thursday (March 6, 2014) at Holston Valley Hospital & Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Rogan was a native of Rogersville. He graduated from Rogersville High School in 1956, maintaining lifelong friendships with his Rogersville classmates. Jim graduated from the University of Tennessee School Of Pharmacy in Memphis, TN, has been a pharmacist for 53 years, owned the Church Hill Drug Store for 33 years and continued to work there part-time. Jim was a Faithful member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Rogersville. He was awarded the 1st District Pharmacists Association “Pharmacist of the Year” award in 1997. Jim served in the armed forces at Tripler Medical Center in Hawaii. For many years Jim was a member of the Church Hill Ruritan Club, serving in various positions including president. He had also served as a member of the Hawkins County Industrial Development Board for 35 years. Jim was a man known for compassion and kindness. He was much loved in the community by his customers and many friends. Jim loved golfing, reading and especially gardening, becoming a Master Gardner after his retirement and loved sharing the produce from his garden with his many friends and neighbors. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lance and Ruth Evans Rogan. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandra Walker Rogan, Church Hill; daughter, Rebecca Rogan Peak and husband, Dr. Louis Peak, Milton, GA; three grandchildren, who were the pride of his life, Alexander Rogan Peak, Caroline Peak and Emily Peak; sisters, Ada Rogan, Rogersville; Ailsie Straley and husband, Dr. Andy Straley, Kingsport; Ruth Borden and husband, Richard, Louisville, TN; brothers, Michael Rogan and wife, Carol, Rogersville; Fred Rogan and wife, Bonnie, Springfield, TN; many nieces, nephews and special cousins. A funeral mass will be held Saturday at 12:00 Noon at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Rogersville with Father Peterson officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home in Church Hill. Graveside services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at McKinney Cemetery in Rogersville, those desiring to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:45 P.M. Pallbearers will be Andrew Spence, Neil Borden, Mike Rogan, Richard Borden, Mike Straley, Austin Straley, Amos Rogan and John Straley. Honorary bearers will be Jerry Lifford, Crandall Craft, Allen Horne and Lynn Stout. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Church Hill Library or St. Henry’s Memorial Fund or the First Baptist Church of Church Hill.
