SURGOINSVILLE – Jerry Scott Clifton, 45, left this world and entered into Heaven early on Friday morning (February 5, 2016) after a lengthy illness. Jerry was blessed with many opportunities throughout his life, but none as important as the opportunity to ask for and receive the forgiveness of his Lord and Savior.He was born in Rogersville on May 19th, 1970 and spent his life in the Cold Springs and Carters Valley communities near Surgoinsville. He attended Cold Springs Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Volunteer High School. Jerry was very talented and had the ability to do many things including carpentry, woodworking, metalworking, and repairing most anything mechanical. He helped many people throughout his life and was always willing to do anything for anyone that had a need. Jerry was known for his strong work ethic. He worked with his dad, Jim, on the family farm and at Clifton Tractor & Implement after high school. He worked at Kingsport Press/Quebecor-Hawkins County and AFG industries- Greenland Plant.Jerry was preceded in death by his grandparents, J. W. and Amy Clifton and J. C. and Victoria Greer. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 26 years, Pamela Harless Clifton, sons, Connor and Dawson Clifton of the home; his parents, Jim and Sarah Clifton, Surgoinsville; brother, Calvin Clifton and wife Leslie, Kingsport; nieces, Megan Napier and husband, Collin, Kenadey Dowell and husband Christian, and Emily Harless; nephew, Peyton Clifton; father-in-law, Wayne Harless; Mother-in-law, Irene Allen (Jim Hill); brother-in-law, Wesley Harless; many aunts, uncles, cousins; and for to many friends to mention.The family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all those who have: prayed for Jerry, spent countless hours at the hospital, especially to his aunts and other family members who spent many nights at the hospital. Jerry received wonderful and attentive care from the doctors at ETSU Family Practice and the nurses and staff at Holston Valley Hospital, Indian Path Hospital and Brookhaven Nursing Home. He was blessed with much love and support over the past few months and the family is grateful to everyone who was there during this difficult time with a call, visit or kind word.The family will received friends at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. and anytime at the home of Jim and Sarah Clifton.Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jerry Anderson, Rev. Elser Bailey and Rev. Pat Hammonds will officiate and burial will follow at Mount Mitchell Cemetery.Pallbearers will be Peyton Clifton, Anthony Davis, Chad Sandidge, Harley Berry, Darren Christian, Jason Hurd, Stacey Gibbons and Scott Bledsoe.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to assist the family with Jerry’s medical expenses would be greatly appreciated.
