MOUNT CARMEL – Kenneth L. “Tiny” Gibson, 70, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023.

Kenneth was born on December 25, 1953, in Kingsport, TN. He was a 1971 graduate of Church Hill High School. Kenneth played football there, during which time they had one of the only two undefeated seasons in team history. After being chosen for the high school All-Star Game, Kenneth signed with Vanderbilt, where he played for one year on the freshman team. From there he attended vocational school, where he received his certification as a journeyman welder and pipe fitter. Kenneth spent the next four decades traveling the country and working.

Kenneth participated in competitive shooting for many years, something he enjoyed doing with his daughter, Becca. He was a horseman, hunter and outdoorsman. He also loved reading, watching “Jeopardy!”, and in retirement, being the “old cat man” of his neighborhood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben C. Gibson and Nora Dell (Rhea) Gibson; his brother, Reece (Phyllis) Gibson; and his grandparents, Walter and Bertha Rhea; and Jessee and Lizzy Gibson.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 38 years, Geneva Larkins Gibson; his daughters, Sandra Larkins (John) Moorehouse and Rebecca Gibson; sisters, Jean Hamilton and Donna (Greg) Hughes; brother, Keith (Brenda) Gibson; two granddaughters, Kaylee and Emilee Slagle-Moorehouse; “special” grandchildren Kevin Espinoza and Jade Reinhart; several nieces and nephews and an assortment of cousins.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Greg Fletcher and Rev. Adam Hagood officiating. A graveside service will follow to Church Hill Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
