CHURCH HILL – Pastor Charles Stapleton, age 85, of Church Hill, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at his home following an extended illness. Charles was born in Kingsport and had lived the majority of his life in Kingsport, Mount Carmel and Church Hill, TN where he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Church Hill. He lived in Ohio for several years and retired from Libbey Owens Ford Glass Company in Rossford, Ohio. He was a member of the Phoenix Masonic Lodge #123 in Perrysburg, Ohio. He was a Baptist Minister for more than 50 years and organized two churches, Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Toledo, Ohio and New Life Missionary Baptist in Church Hill, TN. He also Pastored Solomon’s Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Kingsport, TN. He is preceded in death by his first wife; Arvella Vaughn Stapleton, son; Keith Stapleton, parents; Barnett Stapleton and Elizabeth Manis Stapleton, sister; Alma Barrett and brothers; James, John, William and J.B. Stapleton.Survivors include his wife of ten years; Shirley Roberts Stapleton of the home, sons and daughter-in-law’s; Kenneth & Nan Stapleton of Huntington, TN, Randy & Donna Stapleton of Perrysburg, Ohio, daughter and son-in-law; Tricia & Doug Byington of Church Hill, step-son; Chris & Rose Roberts, step-daughter; Tammy & Richard Moore, and daughter-in-law; Bonnie Stapleton. Grandchildren; Kenny Todd, Sarah and Julie Stapleton, Daniel and Angela Roberts, Chad and Clayton Moore, sisters; Cleo Helton, Barbara Barrett and Ruby Sloan, several great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held Friday, June 24, 2016 from 5 to 8 pm at the Johnson – Arrowood Funeral Home, and anytime at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted 10 am Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gary Gerhardt officiating.
