Cox, age 80, of Church Hill went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at his home. Tommy was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Church Hill and was an active member of the Golden Eagles. He retired from AFG in 1999 after 37 years of service. After retirement he enjoyed doing different odd jobs including dishwasher repair. He is preceded in death by his parents, Luther M. Cox and Maxie Slaughter Cox; sister, Barbara Cox Harless, and mother and father-in-law, Shields and Emma Blakley.Survivors include his loving wife and best friend of 59 years, Phyllis Blakley Cox of the home, sons; Keith & Jaqueline of Jonesborough, Greg & Cecilia Cox of Kingsport and Brian & Melanie Cox of Kingsport, grandchildren; Hunter Cox, Grayson Cox, Logan Cox, Alyssa Barrett and Jackson Barrett. Sister; Sudie Cox Linkous of Kingsport and brother; Tracy Cox of Kingsport. Several nieces and nephews.Calling hours are from 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at the First Free Will Baptist Church of Church Hill, and anytime at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted 7 pm Wednesday at the First Free Will Baptist Church of Church Hill with Rev. Mitch Russell and Rev. Bud Beverly officiating.Graveside services will be conducted 11 am Thursday at the Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons along with his brother, Tracy Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Golden Eagles.
